A stretch of U.S. 1, along the 18 mile stretch, that connects the mainland to the Keys was shutdown Tuesday after a head on collision between an SUV and a dump truck.
The accident at mile marker 124 took place around 10:30 a.m.
The Florida Highway Patrol says a Ford Explorer, driven by Christopher Hocker, 27, was traveling southbound when it drifted into the path of the large truck, like the type used to haul gravel or crushed rock.
