Former heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson has been jailed for drug possession and driving under the influence.The 41-year-old former world champion has been sentenced to 24 hours in jail and three years probation by a court in Mesa, Arizona.

Tyson previously pleaded guilty to charges relating to an incident last year in which police reported him driving erratically after leaving a nightclub.

When officers approached his black BMW, they saw him wiping a white substance from the dashboard, court documents recorded.

Police found bags of cocaine in the vehicle and Tyson’s pocket.

A controversial figure throughout his career, Tyson was convicted of rape in Indiana in 1992.

Seven years later he pleaded “no contest” to misdemeanour assault charges in Maryland.
